Earlier today, Nintendo made a brief announcement online, revealing that Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, originally released on the Game Boy Advance back in 2oo3 are set to receive an updated remake for the Nintendo 3DS.

The fact that Nintendo is remaking Ruby and Sapphire is probably not that much of a surprise, since many would have been expecting this given their track record with remaking past games in the Pokémon series so far and the few hints that have been dropped here and there. Although, it is interesting that they announced this now rather than waiting for their upcoming E3 Nintendo Direct, or even teasing the announcement beforehand as they’ve done with previous Pokémon-based reveals.

The short announcement video reveals little about what to expect other than the tentative box art (which looks rather nice with the colour-coordinated cases), and that Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby and will be coming to Nintendo 3DS this November.

If past remakes are anything to go by, we could expect Alpha Sapphire & Omega Ruby to receive updated graphics based on the latest games in the series, Pokémon X & Y and hopefully incorporate some of the new features added to the series since its original release.
