While we’re just nearing the end of the Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK, the week of holidays in Japan, known as ‘Golden Week’ is also coming to a close on May 5th. To celebrate Golden Week in the US, US PSN users were treated to a special Golden Week sale containing dozens of Japanese developed and inspired games at sharply discounted prices. As with the actual Golden Week celebration, the PSN sale will also be ending on May 5th, so here’s our pick of games you’d might want to pick up while they’re still cheap!

Also, a heads up for games that might have additional DLC you might be interested in:
DLC will be locked to the region of the game you’re running, so if you buy and play a US version of a game, you’ll also need to buy the DLC off the US PSN store with your US PSN account.

How to make a US PSN account?
It’s fairly straightforward to get an american PSN account, you’ll need to make a new account, either on your console or via pc at the Sony Entertainment Network website, then, while filling in the usual account details like email, password, etc, choose United States as your Country and select a State that happens to take your fancy.

How to get US PSN credit?
To get credit on to your US PSN account if you’re outside of the USA, you’ll want to buy a PlayStation Store top up card to load credit on to your account without assigning an american credit/debit card to your account. You can generally find several places online that are able to do this, but here’s a couple we have used in the past:

  • Buy digital top-up codes on Amazon.com (may incur £1 bank charge for currency conversion for some banks) – You’ll also need to have an american shipping address assigned as one of the addresses in your address book, but nothing is actually sent there since you’ll recieve the code in your account and via email
  • Buy digital top-up codes on play-asia (the prices for these are raised a bit over the value of the top up card)

PS Vita
If you don’t have a US PSN account as your account on your PS Vita, getting US download games will be a bit of a hassle, since you basically need to reformat the console to be able to log in and download games from a different PSN account. The effort needed to make this work is also compounded by the fact that Vita memory cards are locked to the assigned PSN account unless you reformat that as well. Unless you really want to save a few pounds / euros / whatever , getting slightly cheaper vita download games might be more hassle than its worth (unless you have two Vitas, then fill your boots!)

Gurumin – $3.40  (~£2.24)

Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God – $7.50  (~£4.95)
