In a surprise reveal this week, Rising Star Games had an unannounced game being shown as part of their booth in the London MCM Comic Con, DJMax Encore for the Nintendo 3DS. As the title suggests, Encore is a return to the original DJMax Portable series for the Sony PSP which launched almost a decade ago (but never officially saw a release in Europe).

If you’re unfamiliar with the series, the main DJMax games have you pressing buttons in time with the beat across dozens of songs (similar to most rhythm games). Details are currently light on the game’s full content prior to the official public announcement, but early signs from checking out the playable build indicate it may be based on DJMax Portable 2 / DJMax Portable Hot Tunes going by the menu and interface design. The reveal is also an unexpected surprise since another game featuring the songs from the DJMax Portable series, DJMax Respect for PS4 was only announced a few weeks ago! Encore being on the 3DS should hopefully help to bring DJMax to even more rhythm game fans.

The gameplay is pretty much the same as on DJMax Portable 2, with you playing songs in either 4 Button, 5 Button or 6 Button modes using the D-Pad buttons and Y,X & A face buttons, but in game, the background animations for each track play on the top screen, while the notes scroll on the touchscreen below.  Check back over the weekend for more updates and a hands-on preview from the show floor!
